The second team took on a strong York 4th team at the oval, despite a very wet week Andy had produced a decent wicket with the help of our excellent covers.

Fielding another young side we won the toss after the warm up and elected to field. Ned taking the gloves with Matt away on holiday.

Debutant Thomas Thornhill opened the bowling with some decent pace and showing he is up to the task ahead this season when available. Despite the light rain we continued to play. The York openers showed their talent and despite captain Cole bowling good lines it was up to another debutant -Rowan Smith to get the first wicket, having been hit out of the ground from his previous delivery.

Rob Williams back from his holiday came in to bowl and as usual soon grabbed a wicket with captain Cole taking an easy catch. The runs continued to flow however, with the occasional poor delivery finding the boundary.

After 20 overs York were  98-1, after drinks the scoreboard ticked over – aided by some ordinary fielding, which certainly cost us 20 to 30 runs. York declared after 40 overs on 216/6 wickets for Ben Jarvis, Rowan Smith, Cole and Williams.

After prepping the wicket and taking tea we batted. For the second week running we had a poor start, despite Riley senior playing he walked back to the hut clean bowled for a golden duck. Gibson soon following him back with a misjudged shot. Andy Thornhill looked in decent shape on debut and pushed the score along a bit despite some accurate bowling from an experienced line up. Captain Cole also finding the boundary too prior to Thornhill departing.

Wickets kept tumbling with the big one of Cole being a major loss, prior to Rob Williams trying to steady the ship- looking in reasonable form prior to nicking off to slip.

The juniors did their best but to no avail. York winning comfortably.

Thanks to Emma for scoring. Despite the loss we celebrated with the first team who hustled a win at nearby Bilton.

Next week we are away to Dringhouses. Points required please!
