Following the abandonment of last weeks game TABS second team took on local rivals Tadcaster. However, with our opponents having been relegated from division two last season it was the first time in years that we had encountered the first eleven.

Fielding a very young team which included a senior debut for Eddie Harrowsmith, plus debuts for two of our four juniors it was a tough baptism on a bitterly cold day.

Following a warm up – the the emphasis on keeping warm, new skipper Cole wok the toss and elected to bowl.

Our new man Eddie Harrowsmith opened the bowling despite having been on a cricket sabbatical started well and was unlucky bit to snare a wicket with a very close LBW shout which veteran keeper Wilkins thought was out! No DRS today unfortunately. The Tadcaster openers looked solid and pushed the score on prior to Joe Young grabbing the first vital wicket well caught by substitute keeper Chris Binnie standing in for Matt Wilkins who had injured himself.

Rowan took an over or two to get going and so nearly took a great caught and bowled prior to Ben Jarvis and Ollie Walsh – keen to play for TABS having travelled back from an abandoned school game entered the fray.

Ben on debut taking his first senior wicket with controls spin and returning 5/0/3/28.

Ollie bowled well taking two wickets despite some late big hitting from a solid batting line up. Stand in keeper Binnie also snared two more catches, along with skipper Cole taking a good one at mid wicket our fielding on the whole was solid. Tadcaster 230-6. Well played TABS – especially the juniors.

After tea and thawing out we batted.
Gibson and Binnie opened. Tight bowling ensued prior to Gibson getting undone bowled by one that barely left the ground for 8, Rowan came in at 3 but was soon runout in a mix up with Binnie. TABS were in need of some stability which came with captain Cole steadily building an excellent partnership with Binnie. The pair took us past 100, however, with the skipper on 48 he holed out to cow corner. Chris Magee – having finally thawed out came in to bat for his first game in many years for TABS. Unfortunately he didn’t last long at the crease falling to a catch at mid wicket. Chris Binnie soon followed adjudged LBW for an excellent 66.

Ben Jarvis showed some ability with the bat as well as the ball in a short cameo innings- well played Ben as did Ollie Walsh who defended well towards the end. TABS 148/7

All in all a decent performance against a strong side. The juniors performing well in tough conditions.

Training continues on Wednesday evening at the ground. Next week at home to Dringhouses.
