The first team travelled to Malton on Bank Holiday Monday with a strong team which included two first team debuts for juniors Rowan Smith and Ben Jarvis- who would both show their undoubted potential for the club.

Following the warm up captain George Gibson won the toss and elected to bowl. Toby and Niti opened up. Toby grabbed the first one with an adjudged nick off to George behind the stumps. Rowan Smith fielded very well at gully – stopping at least two certain boundaries with aplomb.

The second one took a while with the batsmen having a swing on a fast outfield and generally hitting into gaps or over the top.

Enter the Eshaan the king of spin, first ball a big wicket easily caught by second team captain Cole who was nursing an injury.

Ollie Walsh bowled very well at the other end – unlucky not to get a wicket, his seven overs only going for 23 runs. Ollie Riley who has been busy revising for A levels entered the fray and bowling good line and length added to the wickets with Ben Jarvis taking a good catch in the deep.

Eshaan and Riley continued in good form, catches for Toby, Walsh and Niti plus a sharp one from Gibson senior who threw himself around the square like a teenager. Seven wickets between them.

Catch of the day came from the skipper when George picked one off the floor from Toby. A terrific grab.

Eshaan and Niti cleaning up the innings on 194 off 41 overs. Top effort lads.

During tea it started to rain, the covers went on, we played pool and waited. However, despite a dry half hour we did not get back on. Abandoned shorty afterwards meaning we had missed out on a good chance of winning for the second time this weekend.

Thanks to Bo for scoring, Sam Smith for umpiring and parents and drivers for helping facilitate the day.

Scarborough beckons on Saturday.
